A sugar widow is a woman who was once a sugar baby, but has decided to leave the sugar bowl for "normal" relationships. Once she starts dating men her own age who are not financially well off, she ruins the relationships, citing "he's too cheap/doesn't give me an allowance" without realizing other women her age are able to have relationships and even marry just fine.
Once Mary turned 30 and realized her maternal clock is ticking down, she started looking for a husband as she wanted to start a family before it was too late. She realized she was a Sugar Widow since her standards were so high, only 0.1% of the men her age would qualify by their wealth, and competition for these select few men were very high.
