A plot mechanism designed to disguise the fact that the writer hasn't closed a plot hole. Often used in lame TV shows that make their money from convincing the audience that they have some deep meaning when in fact they are making it up as they go along.

The act of conjuring something of foul smell inside the bowels and then releasing this spirit for the world to experience. Birthing a smoke monster is also found in the Game of Thrones when the crazy lady in red gave birth to a black smoke monster, that bitch be crazy!
Nick held Steve's hand to comfort him so he could birth a smoke monster. This smoke monster devastated and evacuated the entire room.
