It's not exactly a relationship, just a situation you're stuck in, where you're both unhappy but you're trying to find some way to make it work.
That guy who was suppose to be my boyfriend was nothing but a situation, so no it wasn't a relationship it was a situationship!!!

A situation that has become a relationship or a relationship that has become a situation. In either case it’s more than likely someone is unhappy in one or the other. Thus, situationship.
She wasn’t fully committing to him and he didn’t know where he stood so it felt more like a situationship then a relationship.
