Shoot On Site (SOS)

Noun: a friend who is usually only called upon by a friend when a more primary/prominent friend is unavailable.

Taken from the term “second string” in an athletic competition situation. In football, if the star quarterback gets injured during a play, the second string is called off the bench to replace him/her. A “Second String Friend” is essentially benched until needed, if ever.

SOS or SoS is a word often used in ytps in a poopism called "sentence mixing" when the subject speaking says something like sorry, sod, or even just sauce, but is reversed at the "ah" sound to sound like sauce. This can be done anytime someone says a word that uses the "s" sound followed by a vowel sound, or a diphthong (two vowel sounds with a transition between them).

It stands for Save Our Souls and is used mostly by the millitary, but anyone around the world understands what it means. Anyone is allowed to transmit this if they are in a life threatning situation. In morse code it looks like this:

In the Netherlands it's also a slang term for cocaine.

S.O.S was a distress call that was used in MORSE CODE, long before telephones were used. To send a call for help, a telegraph operator would send " ... --- ... " It was simple and universal.
