Combines poly (from the Greek polus "much" and polloi "many") with bit (binary digit).
An alternative to the term non-binary gender which acknowledges that it is possible to count above two in binary so long as you use two or more bits. For instance with 2 bits you get 4 genders, 3 bits 8 genders, and 32 bits you get 4,294,967,296 genders. In general, with n bits there are two to the power of n possible genders.
