Used on any online platform when talking about a product, to clarify one has no financial affiliation with the maker,brand, group, or whatever tentacle of the corporate machine has made the thing, service, trademark , logo, or whatever.
*I know it seems like it makes it ok if it's an unpaid smear, but that is a crime in many jurisdiction, so, that would be, as they'll see it, on you.
