Miku Hatsune is a vocaloid singing synthesizer created by Crypton Media with the voice of an adolescant girl. She has long aquamarine hair tied in twin tails, wears a combination schoolgirl/spy outfit, and has an '01' tatoo on her arm, representing that she was the first in the 'Vocaloid 2' series.

Her voice-bank was provided by Saki Fujita. Her name comes from first (初), sound (音) and future (ミク), so 初音ミク, or Hatsune Miku, is the result.

She is one of the most popular of the vocaloids, and her character item is a leek, due to the appearance of a superdeformed version of herself spinning a leek in her cover of the Finnish song 'Ievan Polkka'.

A digital singer popular worldwide, primarily Japan. She is voiced by the bilingual Voice synthesizer series VOCALOID which are made by numerous companies. She was meant to just be used for back up vocals in songs but soon became her own artist. There are many others like her the most popular ones being Meiko, Kaito, Megurine Luka, and the Kagamine twins Rin and Len. All of which were made by the same company that created her, Crypton Future Media. Anyone can make her sing a song by imputing a melody and lyrics. She's spawned a series of rhythm games for the PSP, PS Vita, and the PS3/PS4 titled Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA.

She sings many different genres from rock to electro pop. Some popular songs are Rolling Girl, Yellow, Matryoshka, Unhappy Refrain, Two Breaths Walking and World is Mine. Due to her fame, Crypton has had live concerts which include all of the vocaloids which were listed above. She and her fellow performers sing in a holographic projection with a live band. Each concert have the lights off to make it seem more realistic and have special effects such as lasers and fog machines and flower petals falling from the ceiling. Typically the audience have glow sticks and swing then synchronized to the beat of the song. Her songs typically are about life and love and can get rather dark since anyone can purchase her and publish a song freely.

A leader of a Japanese music trend, Hatsune Miku is a vocaloid. A vocaloid is like a musical instrument in a way, where you can create a vocal track for a song. This instrument is given a persona as the vocaloid software simulates a voice. Hatsune Miku is the first vocaloid in the vocaloid 2 range, so her voice is not as smooth as some later vocaloids. Fans of Miku make songs and music videos, but few are released officially outside of Japan.

Hatsune Miku is pictured as a 16 year old girl with blue anime eyes and long blue hair split into two long (reaching her knees long!) ponytails. She always has headphones on, and her usual outfit resembles a school uniform. Roughly translated, her name means 'first sound of the future'

Her more popular songs include 'love is war', 'world is mine' and 'po pi po'. She is also pictured with leeks alot as they were included in her 'po pi po' video, and have been associated with her since. She has previously performed live as a hologram with a live band.
