Noun. A piece of music consisting of disparate elements, a number of which have been appropriated from other recordings in much the same way as a mashup. In contrast to a mashup, a key element of a mashupera is its link to opera music. The use of the word "opera" denotes that the piece either features samples of opera music or is longer in length than a mashup ("opera" therefore functions in the same way as in the term "rock opera" to suggest the epic and theatrical nature of the piece).
"Treetops McPhoenix has released 'Oedipus Rex: A Tragicomic Mashupera in Ten Parts', which samples Stravinsky's opera-oratoria and combines a dizzying array of genres."
