A character from Alices Adventures in Wonderland. The classic novel by Lewis Carroll. The March Hare is the Mad Hatters companion in the novel being as mad as the Hatter himself. He has was portrayed in the original animated Disney version of Alice in Wonderland as the Hatters best friend and in the newer 2010 version as a completely insane rabbit with a passion for throwing things. in Carrolls novel Through The Looking Glass, there was a character similar to the March Hare called Haigha, Haigah was also paired with a character called Hatta who resembled the Mad Hatter. Both were messengers for the White King

A term employed to state that someone is crazy, e.g., "mad as a March Hare." Derives from the March Hare which Alice pursues down the rabbit hole in Lewis Carrol's "Alice in Wonderland."
