Often used ironically, often when one person hates their life and would just like to kill themselves rather than live another day of their shitty lives.

A sarcastic phrase used to describe the pure boredom and bullshit associated with deployments. People who are screwed into being fobbits with combat arms MOS's are usually the first ones to throw this gem at some one who makes the mistake of either asking, "What's going on?" or "How are you doing?".
Random super happy guy walking into a center of operations: "Hey how are you doing?"
Bored fister: "Living the dream asshole. Thanks for rubbing it in."

This is a mindset that usually comes during a lengthy, alcohol and drug fueled break directly after a period of nonstop commitments.
Guy 1) Damn, I can't wait for these exams to be over!
Guy 2) I know right? We've got 4 ounces of weed, 2 half gallons of rum and 4 fifths of whiskey to get us through the month.
Guy 1) We'll wake and bake every morning! Just Living the Dream

An answer to the rhetorical "how's it going?". Usually given when someone at work asks how you are and it is quite obvious that you have a crappy job and are just as broke as the next person. Most often used by cab drivers when business is slow.
Dean: Hey Greg, how's it going?
Greg: Living the dream, brother, living the dream.
taxi Greg how are you job life

One who is willing to die to live the way they want. Willing to sacrifice everything to succeed how they want. Max risk, max reward. Few are these, and fewer who succeed.

The state of believing that your life is at the pinnacle of everything you could possibly want despite the presence of onlookers hating on you.
Could also refer to an action where you are 'living the dream' such as replicating something that you recently saw and admired on an episode of Come Dine With Me. Or the process of doing something that you are so happily immersed in that all the other crap in your life seems to disappear.

'Keep on living the dream'
'Don't disturb him whilst he's living the dream'
'I was living the dream until you rained on my parade'
'Living the dream, flickin' a bean'
