The mass extermination of millions of Jews, homos, gypsies, and anyone who opposed Hitler. He made his ass- nazis shoot them right out and put them in mass grave, or put them in concentration camps. These were made especialy to kill and sicken the inhabitants. Some of the soldiers were good however, and were only there becuase they served int he army. It was becuase of good ppl like that that the few that survived did.

There has been many other Holocausts in the world but this is esspecially remembered because it is the first time a religous group hads been identified as a ethnic or social class.

In 1940's German leader Adolf Hitler along with his Nazi party decided that all those not meeting Aryan standards or did not have a life worth living should be exterminated . Almost 11 million dead. 6 million of these people were Jewish. Other racial/ethnic groups targeted include Roma(Gypsies), German male homosexuals, German mentally/phisically impaired,Soviet POWs, Jehovah's Witnesses,Germans openly against nazi regime, people pf Polish decent, Slavic people, and people of African decent.

This term comes from Roman text meaning a sacrafical fire. This makes it seem almost as if this was being used for the good of a population. In hebrew and now being used in modern text as the Shoah which means complete destruction and anhiliation.

The Holacaust was the attempt of Nazi Germany during WWII to kill every single Jew, homosexual, Roma, disabled, Russian POW's, and many many other minorities. 6 million Jews were killed and 5 million Roma, gay, disabled, and other peopel who Hitler claimed were "inferior"were killed. 11 million in total. I am of a Jewish family. All my grandparents were in the Holacaust. Just my grandma alone- she came from a family of almost 100 people. Of those original 100- my grandma and 3 others survived. And for those of you who deny the holacaust- where did 96 people just from my grandma's family alone go? Where they shipped off the planet? Whatever happened to them?
And for those who say that Germans should be ashamed that they are Germans because of Hitler is strictly unfair. Not every German soldier actually believed in Nazi ideas. Many of them did, yes, and supported the "Final Solution". All soldiers had to fight, and I honestly dont believe every German supported the horrible acts of their government.
It is also a personal theory of mine that neo-Nazis deny the holacaust because they recognize what a terrible thing the holacaust was, and they dont want to believe that the people they admire and believe in could do such a thing. Once again, I am from a Jewish family, and my grandparents went through the holacaust- and so this is probably the most fair definition you will ever get.

For all yoiu people out there who say that the Holocaust didn't happen, you're so blind. It did happen and the world has to remember so that it never happens again to any group of people. In the Holocaust, Jews, gypsies, and thousands of others were killed by Hitler and his Nazis. All we can do now to ensure the world's safety is to remember, and denying the past will help no one. All you have to do is remember.

Today me and my other fellow 8 th graders closed our books to the holocaust and this is my definition I came up with.
A word that can never be forgotten. An act of war against mainly Jewish, homosexuals, romas (gypsies) and ones with special needs. Millions were shipped to ghettos such a Warsaw and lodz but were later sent to concentration camps and killing centers such a aushwitz and treblinka. Not many survived the Holocaust as many were shot to death and thrown into piles which moved for days and other were gased with Zyclon B in large "showers" or we're sent on death marches and died.
