There are two types of hippies, the Spirit Hippie and the Ego Hippie. The Spirit hippie has integrity and lives up to his own word of spreading peace/love and self acceptance. Dirty clothes and dreads are optional and do not define hippies. The other types are ego hippies. Ego hippies are people who really do not hold hipster ideals dear to there heart, but instead enjoy seeming different just for the sake of making everyone else seem less than for not believing like they do. Ego hippies are where the stereotypes come from.
I used to think I was a hippie until I realized I was just trying to seem different and get people to think more highly of me and my weed smoking/tree hugging clothing (I used to = ego hippie)

A race of hobos that live within nature zones. Their daily diet is composed of marijuana, lsd, and munchies. They're minds are composed of liberal ideals, their bodies are usually covered with organic materials such as cotton, and they usually pack together to attack business firms when traveling to cities. Their transportation are usually economic vehicles, such as: horses, volkswagen vans, buses, or walking.
Hobos are homeless people that live in the city.

Hippies are hobos that live outside of the city in nature.

A peace-loving people that seeks a eutopian society. A lover of music, art and nature. Most hippys make something with their hands(clothes, soaps, jewelry) and have given up on a conventional life. People who love their country but are not afraid to question their government. Misrepresentations of hippys. 1) Not all hippys do drugs and when a real hippy does do drugs it is typicaly a natural substance(ie pot, coke, shrooms.) Most, like me outgrow this phase. 2) Not all are as liberal as you think. I for one own guns, it is our right. We simply dont believe that our government is doing enough to combat the injustices of our society. If anything they are feeding off it. 3) we are not all broke. Seeing as most of us have gone to college, eventually, we graduate and get a job. 4)We are not all animal rights activist or vegans. Animal rights activist can be violent, and hippys dont believe in violence, we do love animals but would not blow up a building to prove that.
Although some hippys choose to take up a cause or not to (by doing alot of drugs) you cannot lump us all in to one catagory. Trying to find two snow flakes that are just alike is impossible. A good hippy takes care of their body and their "Phamily" and donates something to society. All of us love our music and love our Phamily. And yes, we do love our homemade clothes, drum circles, dancing barefoot, festivals, and discussing religion and politics until dawn.
The world could learn a lot from a hippy...

Non-conformists who support liberal ideals such as peace, civil rights, environmental awareness, government transparency, consumer protections, justice, and awareness about corporate and political corruption. Besides being largely a group of activists, they tend to represent and be comprised of common, working class people, artists, educators and philosophers who feel that their activism is an important civic duty, which is every citizen's responsibility to do. During the 1960s and 70s, they were associated with such things as far out music that had meaning and soul, tie-dye, flowers (the term "flower child"), laid back attitudes (in order to offset their strong sense of responsibility,) pot smoking (but not all hippies liked or used it,) long hair as an expression of non-conformity, and as a statement against conventionalism, and blind/thoughtless adherence to to arbitrary rules and societal norms, and yes.... a badass friggin guitarist- with enormous friggin balls who revolutionalized the electric guitar- by the name of Jimi Hendrix. (✿◠‿◠)✌☮

Some accomplishments of the hippie movement of the '60s and '70s:

-Advanced women's rights
-Upheld consumer protections
-Raised environmental awareness
-Promoted racial diversity
-Improved government transparency (at least temporarily)
-Raised awareness about corporate corruption
-Pushed forward many laws regarding poverty
-Helped end the Veitnam War
-Furthered the cause of peace
-Produced a WHOLE lot of groovy music
"She felt flattered when mean-spirited conservatives would call her a hippie as if it was some kind of insult, and thought to herself, 'well then I must be doing something right.'" (✿◠‿◠)✌☮

Often used as an insult for someone who is a liberal or has left leaning political views. It is implied that a hippie is a dirty, lazy pothead who has nothing better to do then protest.

An actual hippie can be recognized by their long hair, brightly colored clothing in unusual styles, such as bell-bottoms, tie-dye t-shirts, and dashikis. (Many Hippies made their own clothes.) They tend to wear long beaded necklaces, head bands and scarves, and sandals. The most recognizable symbol of the hippie is the Peace Sign which is usually on their clothes, jewelry or painted on automobiles.

They tend to promote, believe in or have a fondness of free love, communal living, recreational drug use, nudity, incense, music (particularly psychedelic rock, blues, and folk music), vegetarianism, holistic and natural foods, protecting the environment, and New Age type spirituality. Most of all hippies promote the ideals of Love and Peace. They do not like to conform to society.
