Gonzo writing was popularized by Tom Wolfe, Ken Kesey, and Hunter S. Thompson to refer to New Journalism, where the writer was more interested in nontraditional subjects, especially subjects that related to identity and culture.
Gonzo writing can often delve into strange subjects and unorthodox styles of writing--some of which have been known to be annoying to readers and critics alike (such as, stream-of-consciousness writing).
