750 milliters of a liquid, the term is almost always used in reference to hard alcohol. (i.e. gin, vodka, rum, whiskey, triple sec, etc)
I have a fifth of Jack Daniels in the freezer. Its safe because the high alcohol content keeps it from freezing.

750 ml, enough to get any man wasted, unlike an eigth/pint which the some of the above people have mistaken to be a fifth, which is about 16 oz which is what youd be seeing people sipping off of. then theres the good old handle which is 1.75 liters
