The phrase "Emo Quartet" originated from the phrase "Emo Trinity" just like Emo trinity, this inside joke associates with the 3 following bands; Panic! At The Disco, My Chemical Romance, and Fall Out Boy. Though in this, it adds 4th member or band to the group the popular punk/alternative duo Twenty One Piløts. And just like in the emo trinity PA!TD represents : electric punk, Mcr: Hardcore metal punk, Fob: rock punk and tøp: Alternative hip hop punkish thing you can't really explain their genre easily.

After the recent cancellation of Panic! At The Disco, and Twenty One Pilots, the emo quartet lineup has changed. It is now My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Paramore and The Academy Is.. (No, these bands aren’t actually being called Emo, it is just metaphorical)
