It is used when some people fail to do a idiotically simple task-like taking a bucket full of ice from one place to another.Moreover,they do fail it in a so awkward way.

Mother:Can you give me the salt,please?
David:Here you are...(he pours the salt just before he gives it to her)
Mother:Oh, my son,you just did drop the ice!
David:Yes,I did,mother.Yes,I did.

Drop the ice 

Drop the ice is used for situations where something really bad happened awkwardly because to carry ice is very easy.

Simon is carrying some chips when accidentally drops it and smashes it with his feet just meters before he reaches the table where his friends had been sitting.

John: Oh man you just did drop the ice!
