Extremely popular manga and anime show, somewhat despised by some american (and japansese) audience, yet still very popular worldwide. The series is the later half of the manga and anime series Dragon Ball. It revolved around Son Goku and his sons/allies in many battles to save earth/the galaxy/the universe. It rose to popularity from cartoon networks largely edited adaptation in the early 2000s. Some people criticize it because of the anime's large amounts of filler, which would slow down the pace of the series dramatically. However, the manga was extremely concise. in fact, 3 anime episodes were sometimes adapted from a single manga issue. Many critics do not understand this, resulting in large amounts of criticizm and hatred. In America it became the first taste of Anime for some people, and therefore can be considered a groundbreaking anime here.
Dragon Ball Z is hated by some people, however, many gripes about the series are superfluous in the face of a well made series.

A great & simple TV show that'll make the average person laugh, smile, cry, and get goosebumps. It's a show where the good guys fail at first, but in the end, ALWAYS beat the bad guys. It's also a show that pisses off people who don't know how to appreciate a simple show that makes lots of people feel good, forget their problems, and believe that good can overcome evil.

An anime in which the plot is made up of the bad guys wanting to destroy or take over the planet because they can, the good guy killing the bad guys by blowing up the planet and killing everyone, and the only response to planetary genocide being: "Oh, don't worry! We can just bring them back with the Dragon Balls!"
The fights consist of screaming, cheesy dialogue, screaming, sending little kids into warzones to fight aliens who won't hesitate to kill them, screaming, the idiot not moving out of the way of an attack when it's still charging, screaming, the idiot STILL not moving when the attack finally fires, screaming, and the idiot F#$*ING STILL NOT MOVING even though the attack takes a few seconds to reach them, and a dash of screaming.
Also, the fanbase is SO toxic (ever heard of one that isn't?). Here are real examples I've seen with my thoughts added:
1. Goku is God. No... just... no.
2. All the punches are at light speed But why did that regular old human sees all the punches perfectly clearly?
3. Goku is a universe buster. Can you prove it in a way that isn't "he's stronger than blah" and use evidence and feats?
4. Chichi solos the "blah"verse. Sure... a normal housewife can defeat armies of Soul Reapers, demon lords, supernatural beings capable of destroying entire landscapes, monster armies, alien kings that can blow up planets, and mages, huh?
5. Dragon Ball Z is the best anime ever. Actually, it's a matter of opinion.

Dragon Ball Z has one of the biggest fanbases ever. Too bad that fanbase is also one of the most rabid ones ever as well.

Dragon Ball Z (Japanese: ドラゴンボールZ(ゼット) Hepburn: Doragon Bōru Zetto?, commonly abbreviated as DBZ) is an anime television series produced by Toei Animation. Dragon Ball Z is the sequel to the Dragon Ball anime and adapts the last 325 chapters of the original 519-chapter Dragon Ball manga series created by Akira Toriyama, that were published from 1988 to 1995 in Weekly Shōnen Jump. Dragon Ball Z first aired in Japan on Fuji TV from April 25, 1989 to January 31, 1996, before being dubbed in several territories around the world, including the United States, Australia, Europe, India, and Latin America.
Dragon Ball Z follows the adventures of the protagonist Goku who, along with his companions, defends the Earth against an assortment of villains ranging from intergalactic space fighters and conquerors, unnaturally powerful androids and near indestructible magical creatures. While the original Dragon Ball anime followed Goku from his childhood into adulthood, Dragon Ball Z is a continuation of his adult life, but at the same time parallels the maturation of his son, Gohan, as well as the evolution of his rivals Piccolo and Vegeta from enemies into allies.

A non-existing anime believed to exist by many fans of Dragon Ball Z.
The rumor was believed to have started after Dragon Ball GT ended in Japan. A piece of fan art was shown on the internet bearing a logo "Dragon Ball AF" and a fan-made picture of Super Saiyan 5 Goku. The now-defunct fan-site Majin.com supported the rumor with a lengthy article. But soon afterward, the webmaster recanted his claims, but by then the rumors had grown beyond his control, and the site ceased to be updated a short time later.
More rumors beagn at the end of 2000, but in 2004, the fansite DaizenshuuEX played an april fool`s prank and created anime stills using Adobe Photoshop and a TV commercial using existing artwork.
But the lack of official merchandise, advertising in japanese merchandise, official announcements by Dragon Ball`s creators, and series previews, all prove that Af is fake. And the show`s animators, Vizmedia, and Funimation, have both officialy denied the existence of AF.

Goku is reverted back into child form and quests through the galaxy with trunks and pan to find the black star dragon balls and save earth. Not as popular as DBZ but stands as final dragon ball series.
