Blackboard Collaborate Ultra (BBCU) is a real-time video conferencing tool, or in other words, an online video chat service, that lets you add files, share applications, and use a virtual whiteboard to interact. Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) used that online chat for distance learning and there were serious problems in the first two weeks of distance learning and they were trendy on the news. The problems in BBCU caused were "Zoom-bombing", kids joining sessions early, and using inappropriate names to join the session. There were inappropriate messages in the chat such as “F--- you, yiu smell like gay.” Kids were able to use ANY username in BBCU such as “I LOVE ADOLF HITLER” and “OVEN SURVIVOR #2.” Users were exposing their genitals and students formed private group chats to bully peers. Fifteen minutes in, someone entered his virtual classroom with a username including the n-word. The teacher removed the user, but the person kept rejoining. A teacher tried to keep the lesson going but lost hope when the user began blaring loud music with obscene lyrics. There are still problems in distance learning. The US Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos wants FCPS to reopen in the fall.
