Senator Thurmond had long opposed civil rights legislation in the Senate that outlawed 'separate but equal' treatment of African Americans, but nonetheless had no problem having a (secret) affair with a young African American woman he employed.

The safeguarding of Earth and other worlds from biological cross-contamination (i.e. billionaires with too much time on their hands).
