May 22 Word of the Day
A moment that is generally agreed to have had a significant influence on pop culture and everyday life. While the term was coined by Rose McGowan in context of the #MeToo movement, and is mostly associated with the K-pop community, the phenomenon is universal and a basic component of how culture works.
Real world events such as social/political movements, the election of a new U.S. President, major catastrophes and disasters, as well as entertainment such as movies, music and TV, can all function as cultural resets. Notable cultural resets in relatively recent memory include:
* The Beatles appearing on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964
* The Watergate scandal of 1974
* The release of Nevermind by Nirvana in 1991
* The September 11, 2001 attacks
* The election and inauguration of Barack Obama in 2009
* The COVID-19 pandemic

"The Nineties politically started with the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989 and the Soviet Union dissolving on December 26, 1991, and ended with both the 2000 Presidential election which saw the victory of George W. Bush and the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 which left people so stupefied that it functioned as something of a cultural reset button." - TV Tropes' article on the 1990s

In the poker variant of Texas Hold 'em, The "Big Lick" refers to holding a six and a nine as your two hole cards. In sexual terms, when a man and a woman, two women, or I guess two guys are performing oral sex on one another at the same time, this is referred to as a "69". As with the "Big Slick", the "Big Lick" often produces fortunes to be lost when gambling.
In gambling, if someone, hopefully a woman, has a 6 & 9 in their hand then you would say they have the "big Lick". Even better is if someone has pocket 6 & 9 and they pair up with a 6 & 9 on the table (flop, turn, or river) then that is called a "Poker Orgy".

In equestrian circles, "big Lick" refers to the gait of a horse that involves exaggerated movement of the front two legs. The usual horse breed favored for this is a Tennessee Walker. To produce the gait, special shoes are added and a practice called "soring" is inflicted on the horse. This is considered by many to be intentional animal abuse and there have been efforts to outlaw and repudiate the practice.
"See that guy over there? he wants to enter the Big Lick category at the horse show, so he purposely hurts his horse so it will favor the sores on it's legs and prance a certain way."
