A common hashtag used to highlight a selected film to watch over the weekend.

The use of #FilmFriday became a popular internet trend within filmmakers and fans of cinema, after first being used by Sundance Award-winning filmmaker Ewan Gotfryd, via Twitter starting in 2009.
Every week on Friday, Ewan Gotfryd would post an image from a personally selected title with a watch recommendation for the weekend. Originally, the hash-tagged posts started as curated obscure titles and then eventually shifted more and more into cult and known classics.

In 2012, Ewan finally ended his use of #FilmFriday.

Today, #FilmFriday is used commonly across social media. - Filmmaker Ewan Gotfryd has started to use #FilmFriday again, but only on paid promotions and screening invites from studios, most recently with Universal's "Yesterday" (2019).
