A way of rescuing yourself from a failed joke (it must be said quickly before anyone else can time you out) or a way of letting someone know that what they'd just said didn't work and/or was not funny.

When you quit a job, task, or team abruptly because you are just mentally checked out and unable to deal with it another moment longer. Typically out of nowhere and with little to no notice.

In reference to Andrew Luck retiring abruptly from the NFL at the age of 29.
