Hippie Tech

Technology not so much hippie in origin as hippie in use. A way to live life based on hippie philosophy (Turn on, tune in, drop out" Timothy Leary, 1967) realized using 21st century tech.

Being able to travel permanently around the country in an RV while maintaining an online life for income. Using market capitalism to be free like an anarchist.

Guy: "How can you travel year round and follow all the concerts, festivals and Be-ins and also go to all the Ren Fairs? Don't you have to be rich to do that?"

Me: "My hippie girl and I are no where near rich cat! Thanks to Hippie Tech like 4G, twitter, blogs, etsy, eBay and virtual commuting/contracts we can do whatever the hell we want, wherever and whenever! You grok me brother?"

Guy: "Far out man!"

Hippie Trap

An interesting or unusual object/installation at a burn (or similar gathering) designed to distract, engage, and often inspire wonder in participants for a short/medium amount of time. (Especially relevant when the hippie trap distracts the participant from whatever they were doing and becomes the object of their full attention) Examples include, but are not limited to: interactive play-forms, interesting lights, unusual textures, uniquely decorated spaces, large flow toys, etc.

subaru hippies

Anyone who drives an all terrain style Subaru and has leftist political leanings. Can usually be found in mountain towns acting like professional backpackers while they preach about the freedom of the outdoors and bitch about the politics of those who believe that freedom means not being controlled by the government. Subaru hippies usually think that they should be the only ones that should be allowed to access open spaces, not anyone with trucks,motorcycles, ATV's, or firearms of any type.

This town gets overrun with Subaru hippies on holiday weekends.

A person who displays traits/styles of a hippie, but claims to be a "hip-hop" head. The reverse is also true.

See that dready white boy who stinks of patchouli and beedies, bumping Wu-Tang 'caus his hippie bros aren't looking, he's a straight hippie-hopper. Or "gansta" cats chilling and head bobbing at a Widespread Panic show. It happens, I've seen it. Really.
