Man 1: "Hey, check it out. You see that chick over there with the choppy hair, heeled dress boots, cuffed skinny jeans, scarf, tank top and bowler hat?"
Man 2: "Yeah, isn't she a hipster or something?"
Man 1: "Yeah but . . . it's weird. . ."
Man 2: "What is?"
Man 1: "I thought they were independently minded people. That like the 39th hipster person I've seen within the past 5 minutes."
Man 2: "True. Maybe . . . maybe in reality we are the true hipsters."
Man 1: "Don't be stupid now."

Get the Hipstermug. Hipsters come from affluent backgrounds, they form a part of the aristocracy: the bigotted, highbrow behavior toward others is tinged with Victorian-era, teleological world views, which is naturally a display of their position in the power relations within society. This statement is emblematic of this subculture in that in the process of attempting to distance themselves from their hereditary, privileged class group, nevertheless continue to exhibit a contemporary version of the same prejudice and exceptionalism which further buttress their position in the social power schema. This is why neighborhoods are often gentrified to accommodate to appeal for the hipster demographic.
Don't drive your '86 chevy over there, the hipsters will tell you how you should ride a bike or drive a hybrid instead.

Get the Hipstermug. A hipster is a person who expresses unpopular opinions, stating that the popular opinions are too mainstream. Of course, when someone is a hipster, it can be never certain how sincere they are, since, as with all groups, there are posers. In the case of hipsters, a poser is a person who does not actually hold the opinions that they express, and only claim to hold such opinions to try and get attention with the hipsters. A hipster poser will often express opinions that are much more unpopular than an average hipster would. The hipster posers may also be called special snowflakes.
Person 1: Hey dude, don't be sad, about 15% of people who care the issue hold the same opinion as you.
Person 2: What? Why should that make me happy? Do you think I'm a hipster?
