Cinéma vérité

Means 'film truth', also known as 'Direct Cinema'. A style of film concerned with representing truth and reality, not overtly using filmic artifice, or complete directoral control.

Uses documentary film making devices such as hand-held 'shaky' cameras to give an impression of the viewer being a 'fly on the wall'. Avoids the use of scripts, artifical sound tracks, etc.

Developed in France and Quebec in the 1950's and 1960's. 'Dogma 95' is a film making philosophy from the 1990's which was influenced by the ideas of the previous generation's Cinéma vérité film makers.
The Battle of Algiers, The Blair Witch Project, and The Office are examples of film and TV that use elements of Cinéma vérité.

cinema sight

After sitting in a darkened movie theater watching a movie or two, and walking outside to a birght sunny day, one's eyes might burn and take a long time to readjust.
Lily: Man, that movie was great!

Jordyn: Dude, I know right? --AUGHH!

Lily: Hey, you okay?

Jordyn: Yeah, I'll be fine. Just a case cinema sight.

chimera cinema

A movie that is the combination of two or more other movies. (A chimera is a monster from Greek mythology that is a cross breed of a dragon, a lion, a goat, and a serpent.)
The animated film "WALL-E" is just more chimera cinema. If you've seen "SILENT RUNNING", "2001", and "SHORT CIRCUIT", then you've already seen "WALL-E".

Adj: Console gamers' way of describing a video game as being an experience similar to a movie, when in reality it's their explanation for having to put up with games running at low frame-rates.
"I prefer 720p/30fps over 1080p/60fps. 30 frames per second would be closer to 24 frames per second in movies, that makes it much more cinematic, so the storytelling in the game will be superior."

Cinematic Narcolepsy

The chronic involuntary sleep condition induced by viewing of movies, particularly those shown on a large screen.
Had I known my date had cinematic narcolepsy, I wouldn't have paid for her to take a nine-dollar nap.
