Private School

A private school is a school which you have to pay fees or have a scholarship or bursary to get into. Most seem to assume that everyone who goes to a private school is rich, white, sheltered and preppy. This is incorrect; I speak as a private school girl of four years who came from three state schools before when I say that only about 1% of my school matches this description.
Only about ten percent of people at the average private school in London are white.
Only a few people are excessively rich as well. For example some families work like hell so their child can go to a private school on a bursary or scholarship, which is even after fees are cut. This is mostly not because of a prejudice against state schooling, but because the parents believe their child would flourish in that particular school. The few who are rich at private schools generally aren't snobby like shown on TV.
Being at private school also doesn't mean that you are sheltered from the real world. We know what drugs are, we know what poverty is and we also have kids with their own problems. I know a girl who works for three hours a day and seven on weekends so she can support her family and pay school fees after her 70% scholarship.
Overall, private school stereotypes are merely a stupid generalisation for normal kids who just have wear a uniform and pay fees.
So don't call it a place where parents send their kids because they are rich, racist or snobby, because it is untrue.
Mum: honey, we'll be working some extra shifts for the next week
Child: you don't have to do this for me to go to a private school
Mum: well its worth it if you can continue to achieve things and persue your passions.

Person a: does she go to our school?
Person b:no
Person a: ugh does she go to private school, she must be a total snob.
Person b: grow up.

dream school

The college of your dreams, basically. It is the college you have been dreaming of even before you are old enough to start even applying to college. It has everything you want in a college and it fits your personality to a T. The community at the college (professors/faculty and students) seem to be after your own heart and see things almost exactly the way you do. You would thrive on its campus and would do anything to live in the city/town it is in. The major your interested in pursuing at this particular school is everything you want in that major's curriculum, and more often than not, this college is elite/prestigious in the major you wish to apply to. Also more often than not, usually people's dream schools are highly selective in their admissions. My dream school is the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), a college of art and design located in Manhattan in New York City that is geared towards the fashion industry. The #1 dream school for high school seniors is New York University (NYU).
NYU is the #1 dream school in the country for students.

private school

A private school is a system which creates a two tier standard of education which perpetuates the gulf between the have and have nots.

Private schools are meant to promote choice, choice for whom? The wealthy few and the token scholarship students who end up being excluded by the snobby rich kids and developing inferiority complex.

I doubt very much whether private school kids have gone through the same experiences as comprehensive school kids. Do private school kids have to worry about money and whether they can afford to go to uni? No because daddy can pay for all that and even use their contacts to get them into the top jobs. Or to put it another way, at the very least they have one less major headache to worry about. Their biggest problem in life is probably being able to navigate their way from the west wing of their mansion to their east wing.

Despite a greater emphasis placed upon equality by the government, the old school tie network is still very much alive and kicking, which creates a cycle which repeats itself from generation to generation. Rather than equality, meritocracy, and greater opportunities for all, private school stand for inequality and benefiting the select few who were fortunate enough to be born into a wealthy family.
Just ask yourself one question?
Why do so many people go from top private school's to top universities and eventually into top jobs rather than working there way to the top? Is it because private school's offer a better standard of education? or is it the ability of rich parents to buy their kids education through the amount of money they spend, thus making damn sure there getting a return.
