Get the junkie burnmug. When a professional athlete makes any sort of controversial decision, you'll most likely find sports fans burning jerseys. Usually, it occurs after a player leaves a team in free agency. Jersey burning is more frequent in the NBA and NFL than the MLB.
Sports fans have been doing this since the late 2000s; however, a more notable ubiquity was in July of 2010 when LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Miami Heat in free agency. Many also burned Colin Kaepernick's jersey in 2016 after he refused to stand for the national anthem. These are just some of the many occurrences.
