Paved the way is a metaphor for how an individual or group has paved the way for their successors through hard work. This refers to the result of a difficult achievement, getting an award that has never been printed by others before but thanks to hard work it becomes printed in history and opens access for successors to be easier to achieve.

Pre-emptive programming? This isn't a thing I'm actively doing it's a think I did 10 years ago...
