In Mexican slang, an international soccer (
football) game of low importance and caliber, especially against a low-ranking side.
Moleros often involve Mexico (El Tri) play against another international side of low standing, such as Guatemala, Bolivia, or the Gambia, though sometimes they involve a solid opponent (like Croatia) but both teams field weak squads. They are often played in American cities with large Mexican-American populations, and quite frequently in NFL stadiums. Some frequent venues include
Los Angeles, San Diego, the SF Bay Area (Santa
Clara), Houston, Dallas,
Chicago, and Miami. These games are broadcast on Univision in the US and TV Azteca in Mexico.
Domestic Mexican media and fans often mock the importance of these games, as they are organized through a deal
via Soccer United Marketing and the Mexican Football Federation. They might even be as mexploitation events.
