Daylight Psychological Dread

Daylight Psychological Dread
noun

The feeling of slow, creeping fear that occurs when everything is visible, calm, and beautiful, yet your body knows something is wrong. A genre where reassurance fails, daylight offers no protection, and the viewer realizes they are part of what’s happening simply by watching.

Coined by Near Land as a contemporary art style.
This painting is giving me daylight psychological dread vibes. The islands and water are bright and beautiful but the title is called "You Left Me Here." That makes me feel uneasy.

A24's Midsommar is daylight psychological dread before it meets horror. Everything is bright and colorful but I feel awful inside.

run for daylight

This is an old football saying, meaning blockers should push rushers in the direction they are headed so running space is opened. More generally it is similar to the Judo technique of using an opponent's force against them.
The sixties Packers used a run for daylight blocking system.

Dead by Daylight

A 4v1 game in which killers and survivors must work together to avoid a terrifying creature known as Nea Karlsson.

Nea is a powerful being that stalks and kills those who she finds.

Many characters have their own abilities to protect them. Dwight has an ability that lets him hide in lockers indefinitely. Claudette can go invisible when near tall grass. The Hillbilly can use his chainsaw to run away extremely fast. The nurse can quickly get behind walls by blinking through them. Feng Min is a great distraction, though she never lasts long as a result...

In the end though, Nea finds and kills ALL survivors.
Person 1: Wanna play some Dead by Daylight?

Person 2 : Ugh. It's always the same. You run away from Nea as fast as can and that's it man. It's so boring!

burning daylight

Wasting time. Literally, losing valuable daylight hours (of which there never seem to be enough of).

burning daylight

Wasting time during hours when the sun is up. People were often only able to work when they could see outside.
Jimmy should have been out mowing the lawn, but instead he was burning daylight playing video games in the basement.

Dead-By-Daylight Syndrome

When a game is horribly balanced and the developers know it, but instead of creating proper workarounds for the hyper-dominant strategies the developers will create a single character or tool designed specifically to deal with these strategies. The result of this is every game being intensely one-sided as new strategies will be made specifically to tackle these new perks and characters, but nobody knows which side will win until the round starts.

Can be abbreviated as ‘DBD Syndrome’.

Some examples of games with Dead-By-Daylight Syndrome include (but are not limited to) Overwatch and Rainbow Six: Siege.
“God, these matches are so horribly balanced! Every match is a big game of Cat-And-Mouse as we try to counter each other’s counters!”

“Yeah, that game has really bad Dead-By-Daylight Syndrome.”
