As defined in 'The guide book for Marines" 18 revised edition:

The M16A2 rifle is a 5.56X45mm, magazine-fed, gas-operated, air-cooled, shoulder-fired weapon. It is designed for either semiautomatic or three-round burst-control fire through the use of a selector lever. The barrel is surrounded by two aluminum lined fiberglass hand guards which are notched to permit air to circulate around the barrel and further serve to protect the gas tube. A super nylon butt plate is attached to the rear of the stock to partially reduce the effects of recoil. A forward assist assembly located on the right rear of the upper reciever permits manual locking of the bolt when this is not done by the force of the action spring. A spring-loaded rataining pin can be depressed with the nose of a cartridge to allow the trigger guard to be rotated down against the pistol grip to permit the firer ready access to the trigger when wearing gloves. A dust cover is provided to prevent dirt and sand from getting into the rifle through the ejection port. The dust cover should be kept closed at all times when the rifle is not being fired. It is opened automatically by the forward or rearward movment of the bolt carrier.

General data:
weight without magazine: 7.78 lbs
with 32 rd mag fully loaded: 8.79 lbs
length overall with flash compensator 21 inches.
standard ammunition includes ball, tracer and blank
the M-16 is one of the longest standing rifles in the Us armed forces.

U.S. military's proud gas operated, air cooled, light weight, hand held piece of shit. It is very sensitive to all elements that you'd find outdoors, including air and sunshine. It jams if fly shit gets into the bolt so essentially it's not much of a infantry weapon. It must be cleaned constantly to be able to fire a full magazine, and after that it needs more maintanence. To extend a grunt's life on the battlefield, the A2 variant isn't fully automatic, so there will be some time between dissasembly and cleaning. The reason it became standard issue in the U.S. military is because in the 1960's Colt executives bought some high ranking military brass a few beers and lapdances. Other than that, there's no reason why a recognized military would adopt such garbage.
PFC.Smith:"Hey Jones, i can't open this beer!"
PFC.Jones:"Use the ejection port on your M-16, stupid."

A 40+ year old underpowered, outdated, and unreliable weapon-system that is more effective when thrown as a javalin with bayonet attached than it is when fired. Our soldiers deserve something better.

Oh, and bring back the .45 while you're at it, you Beretta-loving sons of bitches.
GI #1: Shit, my M-16 jammed!
GI #2: Quick, clock him with your butt-stock!
GI #1: Fuck, it broke!
GI #2: Ok, clear the jam!
GI #1: Damnit, the charging handle bent!
GI #2: ... You could use your M9.
GI #1: Huh? That thing can kill people?

The M-16 is a standard assault rifle used by American military. It was well known for it's use during the vietnam war by American soldiers. Whilst bullets fired at a high velocity and it is considered an accurate gun, many feel the AK47 is a much more useful gun.

Whilst the AK47 was durable and rarely jammed, the M-16 suffered from needing to be cleaned often and maintained. It was perhaps too complex and it's power was a little lacking. At close range, in the forests of Cambodia and Vietnam the Kalashnikov was much more useful. For the AK47 was able to shoot holes in trees and it's automatic whilst inaccurate could tear down trees. The M-16 barely made dents. Also when it came to hand to hand, try wopping someone over the head with an M-16, then try doing it with an AK47, see the difference? AK47 works, M-16 doesn't.

Half of these definitons are not totally right. The M-16 was a piece of shit in 'Nam (like all say), but it is fucking accurate now. I have an AR-15 (Civilian Model of the M-16), and the .223 Rem can get in a 4x6 rectangle at 100 yards. But the SAR-1 (AK47 Replica) is better
No example comes to mind
