The act of using somebody's words against them, usually when something to their great detriment is about to be inflicted upon them. Usually in the form of a gloating statement.

Kuzko: "Okay, I admit it. Maybe I wasn't as nice as I should have been. But, Yzma, do you really want to kill me?"

Yzma: "Just think of it as you're being let go...that your life's going in a different direction...that your body's part of
a permanent outplacement."

Kronk: "Hey, that's kind of like what he said to you when you got fired."

Yzma: "I know. It's called a cruel irony...like my dependence on you."

cruel and unusual punishment 

Back in the day,when parents were allowed to spank their children as means of last resort,occasionally a mother would make a wayward child go outside and select a willowy branch which would be used to "switch" the naked legs.Having to select the instrument of your punishment was considered cruel and unusual punishment.Sometime this was pre-punishment as indicated by "And just you wait until your dad gets home".

I would alway get a Forsythia branch as the device of my cruel and unusual punishment.

One of the best movies I've ever seen. Has Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair in it. Involves a lot of rich kids and a lot of sex.

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe both looked hot in Cruel Intentions.

cruel to be kind 

when you have to be cruel to be kind, it simply means you are dishing out tough love to your lover. (S)he will later recognize that you have his/her best interests in mind and will later be grateful for what you are doing. Things will all pan out in the end, your lover just has to trust you.
"Cruel to be Kind" is a late 1979 hit for British rock'n'roller Nick Lowe. He's made other great witty songs as well, check out his 1989 greatest hits release "Basher: The Best of Nick Lowe", it's terrific. Also, a different song of the same title appears on the debut album "Resident Alien" by Spacehog, from 1995.
