Schroedingers silence 

"Schroedingers silence" is a situation where on an online chat, the chat partner suddenly becomes silent, as if ignoring. But in fact, it is quite impossible to know if the partner is the latter, or simply away from the keyboard.
These situations can only be one or the other, as soon as the Schroedingers silence is opened, E.G. having a second partner check if he will get an answer when chatting with the first partner: If no answer is given back, the Schroedingers silence has been open, and one can conclude that the partner is indeed AFK. However if the partner do answer, the Schroedingers silence has been opened aswell, and one can now conclude that the partner is ignoring.

Awkward Silence 

A long period of time in which no one speaks because something has been said that either 1.) ended the conversation 2.) something odd, morbid, surprising, ect. has been said 3.) inturupted the converation resulting in loss of topic. Usually followed by small talk.

1.) My class was having a discussion on the book We're reading, and when the teacher didn't have anything to say, John yelled out, "Awkward Silence...!"
2.) When John told Jake to f*** off, there was a long awkward silence between the two of us.
3.) I was talking to John, and when his friend called him into the other room, their was an awkward silence between my other friend because we didn't know what to talk about.
