When shuffling a deck of cards; you take your finger and poke out several cards from the center of the deck. You then place those cards either on the top or bottom of the deck. This is done for good luck before you deal the cards.
While shuffling the cards the dealer says “squaw poke” and pokes the center cards from the deck as a shuffling move for good luck. Then deals the cards.
