Newspeak word, and one of the central pillars of Ingsoc. Crimestop refers to the ability to stop short of any thought that might be heretical or unorthodox before it is even thought, as if by instinct. It is the ability to misunderstand analogies, fail to perceive logical errors, and be repelled or bored by any train of thought or conversation that might be inimical to Ingsoc. Of course, this process is not unique to Ingsoc, and has been and still is applied by most religious and political extremists.

Crimestop is not stupidity, or at least not natural stupidity. It is the ability to deliberately retard one's own intelligence, and, of course, to forget the process of doing it by doublethink.
"He was troubled by false memories occasionally. They did not matter so long as one knew them for what they were."

Get the crimestop mug.
Newspeak word, and the most important pillar of Ingsoc. Doublethink is the ability to hold two contradictory opinions at the same time without noticing the contradiction. It also refers to the mind trick to accept the changes to history made by the Party, and in accepting them, forgetting that the mind trick was ever performed, and then forgetting the forgetting, etc.
"Ashes. Not even identifiable ashes. Dust. It does not exist. It never existed."
"But it did exist! It does exist! It exists in memory. I remember it. You remember it."
"I do not remember it," said O'Brien.

Get the doublethink mug.
Usually written '+1', used in a forum post to indicate that the post serves no purpose other than to increase the poster's postcount. Usually used after an empty post along the lines of 'I agree'. Often used in a sarcastic manner to indicate the pointlessness of the entire thread.

Get the plus one mug.
Newspeak word, and one of the pillars of Ingsoc. Like many Newspeak words, it has two contradictory meanings. In a positive sense, it means someone who is able to believe that black is white, or that two plus two makes five, if the Party wishes it. In the negative sense, it means someone who believes that black is white when it is obviously not (i.e. only if the Party does not wish it to be).
"How many fingers am I holding up, Winston?"
"Four! Four! What else can I say? Four!"
