I think because this film is a part of a movie series, other characters need to have a bigger story arc, in order for the films to continue. This helps so new ideas can be brought to light. I think his role in this particular film ultimately made sense for him to be more mysterious and have it be less about him. I think Max wants to be in charge. He puts his emotions aw
