A magical place where it is rumored that learning takes place, although to those who enter it is often described differently afterward, as a beatiful land in which beer flows in amber currents next to a golden pasture, where virgins lie naked with gentle smiles upon their calm, inviting faces; but more precisely, a Shangri-La rite of passage into adulthood which involves rampant consumption of alcoholic beverages, flagrant and promiscuous sexual behavior, and a general and fundamental disregard for any form of responsibility by its habitants.
Thank you sir, may I have another?

1. She was the epitome of class in the way she carried and presented herself.

High school is a failed experiment in preparing young people for the adult world. All high schools in the country were built around 1960 and were designed to hold about half as many students as they currently do. Nothing seems to work quite right in a high school building. The heaters only work during the summer and the air conditioning only works in the winter. The asbestos insulation has all fagged out and the building becomes an oven or a meat locker, depending on the time of year. The plumbing is usually a disaster in high school, with drinking fountains never working but toilets that never stop running.
High schools are usually poorly run by a team of out of touch assholes, also known as Principals, counselor, teachers, and ex-Marine drill sergeants (gym teachers). These people seem hell bent on destroying all hope for students through tedious testing, poorly planned projects, educational videos made during the Truman Administration, and text books that mention the Soviet Union on every page.
High school is also the place where the stress of growing up and the stress of fitting in join forces to destroy even the strongest among us. Most of High school is not spent learning but involves trying to find friends who aren't complete douche bags, trying hook up with people of the opposite sex unsuccessfully, combing your hair, buying cloths in the effort that someone will notice you, working out so you will not get your ass kicked everyday, trying desperately to get...
Once a mechanism whereby smart people could raise themselves above humble beginnings and obtain a worthwhile qualification indicating a high probability of being employable. Now a complete con to get kids with high hopes into insurmountable amounts of debt before they even think about buying a house.. then they discover that the job they trained for was entirely fictitious, and they'll have to take any job they can get. At this point, they realise they should have gone into benefit fraud and drug dealing like all their "stupid" friends, who now have houses, cars and big screen TVs.
John always did well in his school classes, and did three A-Levels and got good grades. He went to uni for three years which put him about £30,000 in debt. When he finished his course he found that his degree counted for very little, since he had no experience and the other 400 job applicants also had degrees. He took a job as a sales rep with Coca-Cola, but got fired when he went to an interview for a better job. Meanwhile the cost of living rose exponentially, and by the age of 24, John's debts stood at around £45,000. This was before he even got a mortgage. A couple of years afterwards he divorced his wife on the grounds of infidelity, but she got custody of the kids, and now he doesn't even get to see them despite paying atrocious amounts of child support. Welcome to Blair's Britain.
Knowledgeable, witty, or intelligent. Not a popular thing to be in America
Usually a young person between 18 and 21 who is supposed to attend university at some point or another. Student life for many might entail being bone idle, eating kebabs, stealing traffic cones and getting "totally wreaked!". Mostly middle class
in origin, a great number of them seem fascinated with alcohol and consuming large amounts of cheap larger at arguably cheesy
student nights. Often, many display a great lack of manners and are void of anything in particular accept desperately attempting to be 'totally wacky'.
Interestingly in the perceptions of many, students are often deemed poor. Yet seemingly they are actually fairly affluent. Usually having their tuition fees and rent paid for by their parents, they have more or less a totally disposable income but still manage to achieve massive amounts of debt by spending their money on stupid haircuts or designer clothes.
Student houses can often be identified by some sort of roadwork application in the window, or something they've stolen on the way back from a "totally crazy" evening out. Furthermore, the house will usually be in poor condition with little attempt at keeping the front garden clean - further reaffirming their lack of respect for other people, especially those living in the same area.
"In my halls of residence, me and dave made a pact with flat 84 to get totally wreaked and steal at least four traffic cones. It was a totally mental night."
"We're students, lets get battered on Carling and wake everyone up on our way home with shit songs"
"Hello John, are you coming to the lecture? No, lets go to a Scream Bar and get wasted!"
"Students are lazy and have too much spare time to spend writing shit on websites"
To go over to the opposite sex's house not to study, but to "study." "Studying" usually involves fooling around without any pants on.
"I'm going over to Amanda's house to 'study'"
Favorite interjection of The Fonz.
Richie: Fonzie, I think you should lay off the crack.
