though many people believe that the 5 percenters are strictly an offshoot of the NOI, this is not actually true. the reason for this misconception is that the originator of the 5 percent nation, or the Nation of Gods and Earths, was Clarence 13x, a well known member of the NOI who actually left the NOI because he didnt want to accept Wallace Fard Muhammad as his God. in fact, Clarence's 1969 assassination is rumored to have been committed by members of the NOI. 5 percenters belief system arent even an offshoot of orthodox Islam even though the nation considers its culture Islamic. the 5 Percent Nation is based on the supreme mathematics which are used to understand the supreme alphabet. many people misconstrue their beliefs as racist, however, a better understanding of the 5 percenter belief system will show that it is probably one of the least racist belief systems in current existence. these common misconceptions are due to some common terms that 5 percenters have changed in their belief system. here are a few of those terms:
-ALLAH- in this belief system is not just one person. it is an acronym that stands for Arm Leg Leg Arm Head, (human body parts) which implies that each Asiatic Blackman(sic) is his/her own God.
-Asiatic Blackman- Rather than Asiatic meaning of Asian decent and Blackman meaning a male with dark brown skin, it can be broken down and redefined. Asia-Body, atic (or attic, which makes this, like most definitions in this belief system, a metaphor)-mind, Black-dominant force, man-higher intelligence (another metaphor).
there are many other misunderstood terms that are common in this culture, however, those two are the ones that cause the gravest misconceptions. some of their beliefs are as follows:
- * The 85%, who are the humble masses, mentally deaf, dumb, and blind to the truth about themselves and the world in which they live.
* The 10%, who understand much of the truth but use it to their advantage to keep the 85% under their control through religion, politics, entertainment, economics, and other methods.
* The 5%, who are the enlightened divine beings, having repossessed knowledge of the truth regarding the foundations of life and of oneself, and seek to liberate the 85% through education. (These figures, according to most Five Percenters, are not meant to be exact but are instead meant to represent the public, the religious and political rulers, and the few truly enlightened people on earth, respectively. The numbers used point out common traits to identify the members of these three groups and can be fully understood using the language of Supreme Mathematics.)
-black (the common meaning of the word, not the NGE meaning) people were the original human beings.
-all humans are God as both individuals and an entire world population.
-five percenters consider themselves scientist, implying their search for knowledge and proof, and not beliefs and theories.
The teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths are passed on through oral tradition, much like the griots of west Africa. The advancement of a Five Percenter is based on his or her memorization, recitation, comprehension, and practical application of the Supreme Mathematics and the Supreme Alphabet—lessons written by Clarence 13X—and also the 120 Lessons (a revised version of the Supreme Wisdom lessons of the NOI, originally written by Wallace Fard Muhammad and Elijah Muhammad).
even though 5 percenters believe that black people were the original humans, they do not believe that white people were created in a lab by a scientist like the NOI believes. they only believe that black people were the first humans because of scientific evidence. in the NGE, white people, just as all other races, are just as entitled to being 5 percenters as black people.
as a final note, the NGE is not religiously bound and is not part of any Muslim culture nor is it bound to any religious laws.
some famous 5 percenters include Clarence 13x, Rakim, the Wu Tang Clan, and Gangstarr.
