the year that popular rock music started going down hill.
now we are left with nothing but absolute garbage repeating itself day after day on commercial rock radio. we now have no choice but to look at the indie scene because rock has become so cliche and formulaic. nobody writes classics anymore. and record company executives don't take risks in signing talented original bands. popular rock music died in 1998.
1998 is the year that i shut my radio off for good. thank dog for the internet, or else we would have to go 1998. |

One of only a few bands to have two albums sell at least 10 million copies each in the U.S. Hysteria and Pyromania are two of the greatest rock records ever, featuring such hits as "Photograph", "Rock of Ages", "Foolin'", "Too Late For Love", "Rock, Rock (Til You Drop)", "Women", "Animal", "Love Bites", "Pour Some Sugar on Me", "Armageddon It", "Rocket", and "Hysteria". Famous for ripped jeans, lead singer Joe Elliot's mullet, pioneers in the multi-neon-color fashion, innovators in in-the-round concert setups, British rock band stereotypes, their one armed drummer Rick Allen, electronic drum sets, the guitarists known as the "terror twins" Steve Clark and Phil Collen, and their eccentric bassist/keyboardist Rick Savage. The band was hit with more tragedy when Clark died of alcoholsim in 1991. They are still going strong and their fanbase now spans multiple generations. Def Leppard is one of the few rock bands from the 1980s that people still care about.

Graced the world with his voice. The best frontman and singer a band could ever dream to have. Dave sucked, but at least when Bon died Brian Johnson auditioned and AC/DC kept going until 2003 and Bon Scott said "Let There Be Rock"

Starting off in the late 40's, through the combining of probably at most blues and jazz, Rock N Rooll was born with artists like Chuck Berry and Elvis, onward to Blues Style rock with Hendrix, Beatles and Cream, many peole agrued on who was best (Hendrix or Clapton) then came Art rock, which is like slow druggy music which involves David Bowie and Pink Floyd. Enter heavy metal which was started by Black Sabbath, foloowed by Iron Maiden and Judas Priest and then Metallica. Along comes punk with bands liek Sex Pistols and The Ramones. Punk only lasted a few years. During the time when metal and punk were at war a 2 types of music came in pop rock and stadium rock pop rock:Led Zep, Stadium rock: The Police, neither of these were at war. Punk died and metal carried on for lil while more. Next up a band named Guns N Roses come up and added pop rock to metal and made a neew type of music. Durin that galm came along like Motley Crue, which too slowly died like punk. Next came some rebellious music and some of my faveourite type of music) grunge and alternative rock come along with Nirvana as probably the most popular and RATM, Pearl Jam, Black Flag and Soundgarden following closely. These showed messages of fighting against corparations, but not all the time. Nirvana never did stuff like that, they played some good a stuff. Now today there are two types at war Indy and Emo. With Indy which is popular with the general public and Trendies with bands like Kaiser Chiefs and The Kooks... more...

Rock is a genre that has evolved tremendously in the 20th and 21st centuries. Originally created from blues and jazz from African Americans. Elvis adopted that and turned it into something more. more...
Rock had it's big contributation during the 60's and 70's leading up to 80's rock. During the 80's many bands had extreme success. Near the end of the 80's and in the 90's is commonly called "The End of Rock" where, people said Rock n' Roll had died and bands just weren't the same. But every generation has it's own music, and modern rockers say today's rock is still alive and well. At the turn of the millenium, rock began evolving even more and had some commercial success, but was battling over success with rap and pop music. Around 2002 - 2007, punk and emo bands were highly popular among the rock loving teenagers, although then it was called pop, and was highly looked down upon among other types of rockers, it became more accepted among them as well when rap and pop took over. There are still rock bands having success today, such as Linkin Park, Nickelback, Coldplay, and Avril Lavigne. Rock music has had a long and great history and it hasn't died, only evolved. Just like humanity, we never died, we simply evolved from apes. Rock music will never die and I will always listen to rock. Also everyone stop complaining that rap and pop sucks. It's not all about sex, drugs, bitches and money. |

| 6. | punk rock | ||
|
A genre of music that died around 1996, contrary to what any blue haired fifteen yr old will tell you.
Punk Rock originally had a three chord sound. Everyone knew that the music was not important as the message. Sid Vicious was never known as the best player of the 70s or of any era, but everyone knew who the Sex Pistols were. True punk rock bands include (but are not limited to): Sex Pistols, Black Flag, Ramones, Youth Brigade, Bad Brains, DK (pre-1987), Descendents, Minor Threat, Fugazi, 7 Seconds, Bad Religion, Sub Society, and Teen Idols. Examples of "punk" rock, only by record label classification: Good Charlotte, Blink 182, Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne, No Doubt (yes, I once had someone tell me they are punk. Yes, you may laugh too), 311, and The All American Rejects. Kid1: Dude, I am so punk because I wear a Good Charlotte hoodie, a mesh trucker hat that I bought at the mall and have every Blink 182 CD, including the bootlegs.
Kid2: No, that makes you a fucking tool. Kid1: But I want to be punk. How can I be punk? Kid2: In the words of Jello: "Punk ain't no religious cult,punk means thinking for yourself. You ain't hardcore cause you spike your hair, when a jock still lives inside your head." To paraphrase: Mall punks, mall punks, mall punks.....fuck off! |

| 7. | extrememe rock, paper, scissors | ||
|
A version of rock, paper, scissors that is played so that the winner of each round gets to hit his opponet. If a rock wins a punch is delivered to the opponets stomach or face, if a paper wins a slap is usually apllied to the opponet's face, while scissors is usually a poke to the or chest or is considered 'null' and nothing happens. A man died when he tried settling a dispute using extreme rock, paper, scissors.
