The alteration of properly written language to send Short Message Service (SMS) messages, also known as text messages, txt msg, or txting or txt spk. The interpretation of the abreviated words used in txtese depends on the context in which it is used. ie; "Miss u honey, LOL" (Lots of Love) OR "Gr8 Joke! LOL" (Laugh Out Loud). Using "ALL CAPS" when speaking txtese depicts SHOUTING OR YELLING and can be deemed offensive. Txtese and it's growing popularity is a controvercial subject among linguists. On one hand, the more exposure to writing one gets, the more they learn. On the other hand, promotion of shortened, writing can develop sloppy habits. I can't speak Chinese or Japanese but I can speak Txtese!
