look up anything, like your first name:
1. Rock 'n Roll
The phenomenon which began in the 50's with the combination of rhythm and blues, country music, and gospel. It was pioneered by Chuck Berry, transformed by The Beatles, hardened by Led Zeppelin and AC/DC, and through the course of the 70's evolved into the pinnacle of musical glory.

Since then, it has lost the "Roll" and degenerated into "Rock" a generic term for all manners of crappy, modern, guitar driven music that has nothing to do with the messages, anthems, and ideals of old. Rather than professing a belief in the "Livin' easy, livin' free" lifestyle professed by AC/DC and their contemporaries, "Rock" now aims to piss and moan as much as possible whilst backed by horrible, rehashed guitar and pre-pubescent vocals about slutty girlfriends and cannabis.

Rock and Roll is not just a genre of music. Beyond that, it is a philosophy, attitude, and way of life. The purpose of Rock 'n Roll as opposed to other types of music, is to rebel. True Rock asserts that we need to stick it to The Man and Rage against The Machine (see The Man, see also The Machine). Rock and Roll is a way to disent The Esta...

2. rock band
A real rock band is a group of musicians who more or less follow the principals of Rock 'n Roll.
System of a Down, Rage against the Machine, Metallica, Aerosmith, etc. are examples of a rock band
3. Christian Rock
1. An oxymoron.
2. A genre of music created by teens who wanted to play rock n' roll and still be considered good kids. Urged on by churches, parents, and the man, this genre has grown in recent years. The title, Christian Rock is false for the fact that rock is made up of drugs, sex, and rock n' roll, while the actual music contains little or none of these. Christian Rock tends to contained watered down and weak instrumentals, centering around lyrics. Comparable to soft rock. With few exceptions, such as Switchfoot and POD, Christian Rock has been and always will be a weak, lame stepchild of Rock. This is a shame because Christian music could be great, and yet it is crap. For any people who love true rock such as myself, and have good taste in music will not even listen to this weak crap. Being Christian doesn't mean you have to listen to that worthless shit.
Bob:Hi! Do you like Christian Rock!
Dave:No I listen to good bands like Led Zeppelin and AC/DC.
Bob: Thousand Foot Crutch is the best!
Dave: Eat me.
4. nasal rock
When musicians, mainly "rock" frontmen, sing in a way that they sound like they have a horrible cold. It's mostly used to cover up the fact that a singer has no real talent in singing from the diaphragm. Mostly associated with emo "rock"

(Editorial note: the quotation marks are used cause I am not entirely convinced that these can be considered true rock bands)
You ever hear 'Simple Plan'?
Yeah, THAT'S nasal rock
5. glam rock
A poser-fashion style started by many posers in the 1960,1970 focusing on the gleam of clothes, the non-physical
sexual attitude, the fashion . General focusing on pose and not music. A virus that possessed and possesses true rock
which is a style of life and a reaction against systems.
Started by assholes like David Bowie, it continues to be trendy, it sells well and it's loved by companies and record stores who like a non-aggressive rock style(pop style like Britney Spears bitch) cause it's a music that family buys. It's also received well by the system. Gays and
drug addicts can't react.
(glam rock) David Bowie,Elton John,George Michael, Guns n' roses,Ratt,Poison,Twisted Sister,Judas Priest,Wild Machine,
Joe Satriani,Yngwie Malmsteem,Steve Vai, Whitesnake,Dio,Bon Jovi,Him,Marilym Manson,Slipknot etc...............
EXCEPTION TO THE RULE IS QUEEN
REMARKABLED IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC FOR THEIR GREAT MUSIC
AND NOT FOR THEIR POSE
6. classic rock kid
a person who loves rock from the 60's and 70's. this person strongly believes that modern music is talentless compared to classic rock.(which is very true).
Prefers rock with deep, diverse guitar driven sound that makes use of scales and many chords rather than than just E string on distortion...or 3 note breakdowns, or repetitive power chords. Classic Rock has proven to be the most talented type of rock and has the musicians to prove it(jimmy page, eric clapton, hendrix,...).
This person will often reject or will have no opinion of any other music that lacks the distinct, aweosme sound that is classic rock.

bands this type of person listens to include:

Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
The Doors
Jimmy Hendrix
Deep Purple
Cream
The Beatles
The Who
The Grateful Dead
The Rolling Stones

person: "hey did u go to the ska show last night"?

classic rock kid: "....are u serious"?

person: "wat u dont like ska"?

classic rock kid: "...." *walks away*
7. Rock Chick
A rare breed that DOES exist, but is often grossly misrepresented and the term frivolously and wrongly used.
True rock chicks in the 21st century are nearly impossible to find unless you search underground, where they create and play music in bands you've never heard of in places you'd never think of going unless you, yourself, also happen to be a true rocker or an open-minded music hobbyist. Despite being obscure in this way, there are many talented rock chicks in this hidden rock&roll playground who play their instruments well, belt a tune amazingly, and make you move and groove like any band with a penis.

Good examples of rock chicks include but are not limited to: Heart; Bassist D'arcy Wretzky of The Smashing Pumpkins; Lead guitarist of The Runways Nancy Wilson; Guitarist Orianthi who Carlos Santana himself once stated that, were he to pass the torch to any guitarist in the world, she would be it. Because of this he has endorsed her. Drummer Vox Peggy O'Neill of the garage punk band The Gories; Lead singer of Jefferson Airplane Grace Slick; Guitarist Great Kat (aka Katherine Thomas)-- who is known for her extremely technical shredding. Also the ultimate, perhaps most widely acknowledged female rocker to date: Janis Joplin.

Another thing worth noting is Rolling Stone's 2003 Greatest Guitarists of All Time; Joni Mitchell and Joan Jett were listed as two of the most talented rock guitarists in history. Not surprisingly, they were the only females to make the list.
