3. torana
Australian-built version of the European Vauxhall Viva car of the 1960s and 1970s, with a wider range of engines. TORANA is an abbreviation of Tons Of Rust And No Acceleration, which applied to all four and six-cylinder models.

The V8 versions, especially the SLR of the 1970s, are sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.

Holden is considering resurrecting the name for a new model.
My Torana was blowing so much smoke, I couldn't see anything out of the rear-view mirror!

1. Torana
A model of Holden produced between the late 1960's and 1980. The first model was the HB Torana (which was an imported and rebadged Vauxhall Viva, only availible in 4cyl models), this was replaced by the LC Torana, which was availible in 4-door 'S' and 'SL' models, and 2-door 'S', 'SL', 'GTR' and the Bathurst-winning 'XU-1' which was a Holden Red six with triple SU carbies bolted onto it, a lethal combination to say the least.

A facelift of all models provided the LJ Torana which took Holden through to September 1974. A new larger Torana replaced the smaller LC/LJ Models, titled the LH Torana, the Torana was now offered in L4, L6 and V8 Models. Eight different engine options with some new models too. All LH Toranas were 4-door sedans, and came out in 'S', 'SL', 'SL/R', 'SL/R 5000' (this had the largest V8 - Five Litres) and the Bathurst-winning L34 with the hot Five Litre V8 and HQ brakes.

The LH Model was replaced in 1976 with the LX Torana, Holden kept almost all models but killed off the L34 and replaced it with the A9X which was availible in the 4-door sedan and all new 2-door Hatchback. The Hatchback was availible in 'S', 'SL' and 'SS' models along with the A9X

The last LX rolled out of the factory in 1978 when it was replaced by the dreaded UC Torana. UC Toranas were given a modern facelift and availible in only non-sporty models. They were all 4cyl and 6cyl Toranas with unbelievable handling for their time and they were...

2. torana
An awsome motor car released in the 60's by GHM. also known as Torrie, it was the first australian car to give the buyer a choice of 4, 6 or eight cylinders (a total of 8 engines).

The prefix of the model numbers are "L" eg. LH, LX, LJ, LC... etc...
This refers to the "light" nature of the car.
