A kid-friendly way to explain the concept of sexual intercourse. In earlier times, people were embarassed to let alone tell children about sex. With newfound knowledge, they use Mother Nature to explain, so kids know that it is less creepy from the get go.
EVERYONE READING THIS. Watch Carpet Diem (an episode of Gravity Falls). It has a Birds and Bees talk in it, and it is one of the most funniest scenes of any show EVER! Another one on that list has to be an episode of Samurai Champloo, called Bogus Booty. You should watch that too.

As you can probably tell, I watch a LOT of Anime, so there are many more scenes from them in the previously mentioned list.

used as a way of easy parenting. if you are using it, you are either:

a stressed middle-aged parent explaining it to your 10 year old

a scientist who studies both bees and birds and have created a formula or something about the bees and the birds (the animals not the sex)

In other words, it should be avoided.
1. dad: son, lets have a talk about... uhh... the bees and the birds.
son: oh ok. *drat, its time 4 the puberty talk*

2. Scientist: I have created a situation to all of our environment problems! And I have stored it all on this paper! *holds up paper* Ahem.... 'The birds and the bees...'
other scientists: *grabs paper and tears it up* SHHH bruv! we don't wanna here that crap!

The explanation of sexual reproduction. In old fashioned times people were embarrased to discuss sex let alone tell children. So they used Mother nature as a metaphor to portray sex as a natural thing and not a crime punishable by eternal damnation.

According to tradition, the birds and the bees is a metaphorical story sometimes told to children in an attempt to explain the mechanics and consequence of sexual intercourse. According to that story the birds are like men and the bees like women: Birds are free to fly wherever they like, but bees are enslaved to a single queen their entire life and their whole life is dedicated to keeping her alive. Bees pollinate flowers, birds spread the seed, men impregnate eggs, women give birth. Sex is key for survival of both.

1)The talk that a parent (usually a mother) gives her daughter/son on the night of their first date, containing safe sex, or abstinence. The whole point of the 'birds and bees' is to convince you NOT to have sex.

2)The most annoying talk in the world.
1) Mom- Honey, we need to talk.
Daughter- Mom, I DON'T want the 'birds and the bees' talk.
Mom- But you need to know not to have sex. You could get pregnant and die!
Daughter- We're JUST going to a friend's house for a small get-together.
Mom- Are there going to be a lot of boys there?
Daughter- No Mom, it's a nun club.
