3. suburb
A mind-numbingly dull place located on the outskirts of a larger, and probably more interesting, city. Completely devoid of culture, activities, black people, good coffee, independent business and pedestrians. Citizens in suburbs are notable for their "keeping up with the Joneses" mentality, which means that potentially normal people conform to idiotic standards such as fashion, car size, and amount or azalea bushes in order to impress their equally idiotic neighbors. Children of suburbanites tend to go in two divergent directions: the sane ones who move to cities to escape the suburb's banalities, and the copycats who move out of their parents' house into the same suburb or nearby suburb.
Bob:Which suburb do you live in?
Tom: Does it matter? They're all the same.
Bob: No way, the one 4 miles from here has wooden fences, not iron.
Tom: *sigh* I need to move to the city...
4. suburb
Where you live when you dont want to live in the inner city. It's a place of mostly middle-class homes, Walmart, soccer moms, SUVs, strip malls and the homes of corporate bigwigs. Suburbs in the United States began to spring up during the post WWII years as families left the central cities for a quieter, safer and more relaxed lifestyle. However some suburbs are just as poor as the inner-city itself. According to the US census, the number of persons living in the suburbs now outnumbers those in the central cities.
Most Americans would probably rather live in a suburb than in the crime-infested inner city.
