| 1. | Think Before You Speak | ||
|
An organization that is fighting a losing battle and only succeeding at acquiring teens who want to take a stand against something to feel good about themselves and annoying the rest of the people that know that the majority of homosexuals in the USA don't get offended when people say "that's gay" and even say it themselves. Think Before You Speak is speaking out against another person saying "that's gay." They should realize that it's much easier and less annoying for everyone else to let the meaning of a word change and its stigma go away than it is to try to get the enormous number of people who speak English to stop saying it by trying to create stigma.

| 3. | Rap | ||
|
Contrary to much popular opinion, rap is a musical genre; it is a very beautiful, creative, and innovative musical genre. As many of you know, rap music is part of the 4 elements of hip hop, which include rapping (emceeing), DJing(scratching, sampling, and mixing), graffiti, and breakdancing. Rap is neither superior nor inferior to any other genre of music because it is a distinct form of artistic expression. It seems very strange that there seems to be a mutual dichtonomy between rock and rap. They are not mutually exclusive or diametrically opposed to one another because they formed for the same reason. Whether one wants to admit it or not, both rap and rock formed as a rebellion from popular culture and both serves as a voice for a particular generation. Many individuals in the 60s were speaking against rock as an illegitimate art form just as many individuals today speak against rap music. Just as rock music is not one-dimensional, neither is rap music. Just as much as person would not call all rock music satanic, neither should a person call all rap music a genre that promotes misogny and thug life. There are many stereotypes associated with rap music that should be eliminated

1) Rap appeals only to poor African-Americans It has become an established fact that African-Americans are not the largest consumer of mainstream hip hop. It's well known that white suburbanite teenagers are the real supporters of mainstream hip hop. 2) Rap degrades African-American cultu... |

| 5. | speak truth to power | ||
|
A phrase coined by the Quakers during in the mid-1950s. It was a call for the United States to stand firm against fascism and other forms of totalitarianism; it is a phrase that seems to unnerve political right, with reason. The founders of United States risked their lives in order to speak truth to power, that of King George. It was and is considered courageous, although is more commonly scorned today.

| 6. | farting against thunder | ||
|
To attempt something which, in the face of a massive adversary is equivalent to trying to drown out a thunderstorm with a feeble fart. Can also be used as an exaggerated way of describing how one's attempts at 'getting the message across' to an individual or party were met with a overpowering sense of hopelessness and futility. Often out of pure frustratrion. Trying to speak to the manager about my complaint was useless. All she did was talk-talk and not listen. I might as well have been farting against thunder!

| 7. | Saudi Arabia | ||
|
The country the U.S. should have toppled instead of going into Iraq.
Major contributing factor to all the misery, backwardness, and violence that exists in the Mideast. An impediment to democracy and freedom in that region and the Muslim world as a whole. The most hated and despised nation in the Islamic world. They treat their own people like kings and ruthlessly discriminate against individuals of other backgrounds and religions. Country that funnels billions of dollars of oil money to "charities" that wage war on innocents, while at the same time erects libraries and mosques to "buy" the respect of other nations. A nation void of liberties, ruled by uneducated Bedouin who a century ago contributed nothing to the wellbeing of mankind. The only thing they contribute now just so happens to be the lifeblood of the industrial world - oil. And that too only because foreigners and ARAMCO are there to do the dirty work for them. A country that will be absolutely fucked once oil becomes obsolete. Synonyms: hypocrisy, illiteracy, perfidy, backward-thinking, lethargy... Antonyms: civilization, education, progress, hard work 15 of the 19 hijackers hailed from Saudi Arabia.
The overwhelming majority of the insurgents in Iraq are Saudis. The only country in the world that doesn't allow women to drive is Saudi Arabia. If you practice any religion but Islam in Saudi Arabia, you can be arrested indefinitely. If you speak against the rulers of Saudi Arabia, you may be imprisoned and killed without ever seeing a judge. Over 70% of Saudi youth are unemployed. Expatriates from poorer countries are more or less slaves in Saudi Arabia, hired to do the work for their Saudi overlords. Apparently, "Saudization" has a long way to go. Mecca and Medina. Yeah, they're international cities. Look beyond those two locales to get a real feel for Saudi Arabia. Want a modern example of an Islamic nation? Yeah, don't dwell on Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia should take a page out of Dubai's book if it wants to get out of the abyss it has been digging itself into for the past eight decades. |
