|
A piece of media, especially mainstream, that gratuitously mashes together several random internet memes in place of being original or creative.
Meme parades are generally well received, earning praise far beyond their merit, because they place esoteric internet culture in front of the public at large, thus making heavy internet users feel like a beautiful and unique snowflake for being part of an in-joke (albeit an in-joke with several million people in on it). The video for 'Pork and Beans' by Weezer is a meme parade.
The South Park episode 'Canada on Strike' contained a meme parade. |

A city on the turn around from a few decades of bad karma and even worse government. Granted there are still some less than intelligent people running things, but the city is definitely changing for the better. The crime rate is down, though there are still some neighborhoods to avoid...as in every city. There are still some problems but come by in May for some storms, great music, great food, and a great time. Memphis is a town on the turn around.
Memphis in May, don't drown in Tom Lee Park when it rains at Musicfest. |

| 18. | early 2000s | ||
|
Usually considered an extension of the 1990's for American culture. Pretty much had the same feel of the past decade, but with a lot of political and economical trouble. more...
Many music stars and bands who were popular in the mid-late 90's continued their popularity, with some new emerging stars who sung in the same style. The boyband fad died in 2002, with the end of NSYNC and the hiatus of the Backstreet Boys. Many popular shows from the late 90's continued or aired in reruns through the period. Reality TV was popular, but it wasn't usually scripted. Anime dominated the animation scene. In addition, 90's shows, which were either running or in reruns, remained popular. Adult cartoons became popular. Politically, the early 00s was overall a horrendous time. Bush was inaugurated in 2001, followed by the 9/11 and anthrax attacks and the War on Terror later that year. The Iraq war in 2003. The economy wasn't doing too well. The dot-com Bubble burst in 2000, leading to a recession in the 2001-2002 years, though it wasn't as bad as the late 2000s or 1930s recession. Video games systems included the original Playstation, the PS2, Xbox 1, Dreamcast, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advanced. Online gaming started to become popular. 2D gaming was accepted for the portable systems, and portable remakes of many 80's and 90's classics. Home consoles usually had 3D games, but there were compilations of classic 2D games. It wasn't perfect, but many are starting to reminisce on the time today. |

Possibly the craziest, most whacked out anime ever, it features a young boy going through puberty, a robor, pervs, secret government organizations, and many, many, many references to other pop-culture "things," such as, but not limited to: South Park, girly animes, indian food, scandalous officials, and the paparazi. It also has some great tunes by the pillows, a j-rock band, as well as some kick-ass action scenes. Robots fly out of a kid's head. Naota: I'm going to school!
Haruko: Are you joking? I need another robot! Let me go get my guitar... |

| 21. | Glenmoore | ||
|
Quite possibly the greatest region within the encompassing land mass that is North America. It has been regarded as "charmingly off-putting; full of joyful malaise" by a flattering Times news magazine's cover article: "Glenmoore kicks ass, you infidel scum." Conversely, critics of the area have labelled it "...stellar, but not tremendous...", or "...ALMOST a Utopian land of prosper.", or "...full of physical, mental, and spiritual well being, but no water park". Regardless of opinion, Glenmoore is generally accepted to have been the insurmountable fore-front of all that is positive and contributory to the advancement of culture and civilization. Glenmoore, as a physical town, once banded together and conquered Native Americans living south of present-day West Virginia. The Native Americans were slaughtered. Their flesh was then adeptly removed, cured, and used as a recording media in architectural design.
A top-level operative of the former-Soviet Union's KGB organization once condemned this area as "deviant, and strongly diverging from the commonly accepted bounds of organized society." For his ill words, the man was struck down by an enigmatic occurence of lightning, which then served as a catalyst in a massive inferno which consumed his large villa and, consequently, family. |
