Liberalism is a political philosophy-ideology favouring centrist-laissez-faire economics, willing to comprimise a bit. Additionally, liberalism advocates for the invidualist freedoms, including democratic rights. They support a democracy. Liberals are also advocate of separation of church and state, open-disscusion, Social Progressivism and centrism.

Sweden is a country which many Americans don't know much about. One of the most common prejudice is that the entire population is blonde and tall (which is not even remotely true), others may believe that the country is run by communists and that ABBA is the only music arrived therefrom. Fact is that Sweden may have more blondes than e.g. Spain, but there's still at least 40% who aren't. The current government of the mentioned country is Social Democratic, which greatly differs from Marxism and Leninism.

The musical scene has of course developed since ABBA, and for a population of 9.000.000, Sweden has produced an awful lot of successful bands and artists. Some of these would be Millencollin, Hammerfall, The Hives, Ace of Base and The Cardigans.
Many songs in the U.S. plastic-pop-industry has been written by Swedes also.. among these you can find many songs performed by Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Backstreet Boys, N'Sync and such.

Some claim that Sweden among other things has the highest rate of suicides... but as some wise person once said (disputed who) "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." :)

(n) Socialist Organiser (Soggy Oggy, Soggy) Memember of a broad left organisation founded in 1979. In the mid-1980s they formed SSiN (Socialist Students in NOLS) a campaigning group with some success in NOLS (National Organisation of Labour Students) and gained some success in achieving positions in NUS (not National Union of Semen, National Union of Students). SSin was relaunced in 1989 as Left Unity. Both SSiN and Left Unity interpreted Israel/Palestine, NI/ROI and the nature of the Soviet Union in ways that made them alarming to most other Trotskyist groups . It should be noted that "far left soggy nonsense" of the 1980s is standard idealogy within most mainstream social democratic parties.

Although membership, requirements were much less that similar Trotskyist groups at the time. (Militant wanted 20 papers sold and a 20pc tithe on your earnings), political education went beyond the understanding of most socialists and left within months (I came from a Liberal Party background, and enjoyed the schism histories of Left Politics, but just couldn't understand finer points of the nature of the Soviet Union; Militant gave me a 30 minute lecture on the break up of the Soviet Union and a disco)

The basis of Ottoman rule in Albania was a feudalmilitary system of landed estates, called timars, which were awarded to military lords for loyalty and service to the empire. As Ottoman power began to decline in the 18th century, the central authority of the empire in Albania gave way to the local authority of autonomy-minded lords. The most successful of these lords were three generations of pashas of the Bushati family, who dominated most of northern Albania from 1757 to 1831, and Ali Pasa Tepelenë of Janina (now Ioánnina, Greece), a colourful Oriental-type despot who ruled over southern Albania and northern Greece from 1788 to 1822. These pashas created separate states within the Ottoman state until they were overthrown by the sultan.
After the fall of the pashas, in 1831 Turkey officially abolished the timar system. In the wake of its collapse, economic and social power passed from the feudal lords to private landowning beys and, in the northern highlands, to tribal chieftains called bajraktars, who presided over given territories with rigid patriarchal societies that were often torn by blood feuds. Peasants who were formerly serfs now worked on the estates of the beys as tenant farmers.
Ottoman rule in Albania remained backward and oppressive to the end. In these circumstances, many Albanians went abroad in search of careers and advancement within the empire, and an unusually large number of them, in proportion to Albania's population, ...

The Republican Party is one of two major contemporary political parties in the United States; the other being the Democratic Party. It is often referred to as the GOP, or Grand Old Party, although it is the younger of the two major parties. During the current 110th Congress, it is the minority party in the United States House of Representatives and the Republican caucus constitutes a minority in the United States Senate. Republicans hold a minority of governorships and control a minority of state legislatures. The current President of the United States (2001-present), George W. Bush, is a Republican.

Since 1856, Republicans have won 23 of the 38 presidential elections, including 7 of the last 10; 18 of the 28 U.S. Presidents since then have been Republicans. After the Republican Revolution of 1994, the Republican Party was the majority party in the House of Representatives and almost continuously was the majority party in the United States Senate from 1995 to 2007; the Democratic Party took control of both the House and the Senate in the 2006 elections.
