| 51. | Nerd | ||
|
Nerd, like any other slang word, has many meanings. Some say a Nerd is just anyone who isn't socially skilled. Mainly though, nerds are intellectuals who place their hobbies, usually but not necessarily computers (other types of nerds include Sci-fi nerds, RPG nerds.. These can cross over with computer nerds. See geek). This does NOT mean they jack off to wired magazine, and it DEFINITELY doesn't mean they are usually gay 'out of necessity'. Nerds can be seen as generally more intelligent than 'normal' people, but this only makes up for their lack of 'social skills'. Actually, nerds do have 'lives' with high-paid jobs and communities of nerds, but aren't good at socialising with people who aren't other nerds.

| 52. | Mayday | ||
|
Day of international resistance and solidarity against capitalism.
Originally a day of carnivalesque suspension of the social order of work and control, prevalent among peasant communities in mediaeval Europe. A continuation of earlier pagan festivities which continued in a syncretic way during the Christian era, with rituals such as the maypole retained. (This was originally a pagan fertility ritual). It became a focus of international resistance for two reasons: firstly, because the campaign for Mayday to be made into a holiday was an important early campaign of the workers' movement, and secondly and more importantly, because of the Haymarket martyrs, anarchists stitched up over a bombing at a protest. It has become an important focal point for resistance in recent years in countries such as Britain and Australia, and for a longer time in Germany. Anarchist, anti-capitalist and direct action events have been organised, as well as left-wing demonstrations and parades.

| 54. | animal rights activist | ||
|
(Let me start off by saying that I find the definitions that are listed here to be very offensive. I am a vegan and a supporter of animal rights. I am also very active in human rights, peace and social justice activism. It is a fundamental misinterpretation to say that people who believe in animal rights hate people. For the most part, animal rights activists are very concerned about issues related to cruelty towards humans as well as non-humans.)

An animal rights activist is someone who cares deeply about the fundamental rights of other living beings, believing strongly that no animal, human or non-human, deserves to suffer. A core belief of the animal rights movement is that sentient beings have the right to live a life free from cruelty and exploitation. Animal rights activists do not seek to create a world where non-human animals are treated better than humans, rather a world where no sentient being, including humans, has to suffer. Many animal rights activists are also active in other communities such as human rights activism, social justice activism, civil rights activism, peace activism, e... |

| 55. | sticky rice | ||
|
Arguably the least desired, least attractive and most unpleasant minority within a minority, sticky rice are gay Asian males who profess to only feel attracted to other Asian males. This alleged and exclusive same-race attraction can have many origins and varies on an individual basis. Sadly, ethnocentrism among sticky rice is often associated with extreme feelings of bitterness and perceived social persecution, much like sentiments felt in the extreme elements of the "Black Power" communities. Sticky rice standards for attractiveness are also notoriously low (making their dishonest claims that potato queens are "pathetic" ring hollow), as anyone who has read their message boards or chat rooms will attest. Further, adult sticky rice often chase young teenage Asian males, rendering disingenuous their claims of "sick" age disparities between Asian/White couples. Often racist, bitter "stickies" will attempt to bash potato queen males because the potato queens have zero romantic interest in the generally less attractive sticky rice. One needs only to read some of the member-supplied potato queen definitions from the grammatically-challenged Asian "stickies" to see this. Rarely original or engaging on a personal basis (though ... more...

| 56. | hip hop | ||
|
Hip Hop is an art form that includes deejaying cuttin' & scartchin' emceeing/rappin', breakdancing and grafitti art. These art forms as we know them today originated in the South Bronx section of New York City around the mid 1970s. Hip Hop has thrived within the subculture of Black and Puerto Rican communities in New York and is now just recently beginning to enjoy widespread exposure. From a sociological perspective, Hip Hop has been one of the main contributing factors that helped curtail gang violence due to the fact that many adults found it preferrable to channel their anger and aggressions into these art forms which eventually became the ultimate expression of one's self.
