Sober, in a literal sense, is to be void of the influence of any intoxicating agents like alcohol, for example. However, it is often used (satirically) to replace the word drunk in places and situation where it would be wise to avoid explicitly stating one's intention to become intoxicated. Hey man, are you and the boys still going out to get sober as all hell tonight?
