Skibooting 

(verb, noun) The practice of leaving an item visible, but not mentioning or drawing attention to it, to allow a nervous or suspicious person to get used to it.

Derived from the practice of getting nervous beginners used to ski equipment by just having it around but not forcing them to try it.
"She's gonna hate that new console."
"I'm gonna start by skibooting it for a while."
